Welcome to a Toony Blunt IBT practice listening test. You will hear a passage on the topic of the Great Barrier Reef. After you have listened to the passage, you will answer a series of multiple choice questions. Please listen carefully and choose the best answer for each question.
The Great Barrier Reef is the world’s largest coral reef system, located in the Coral Sea off the coast of Australia. It is home to a wide variety of marine life, including thousands of species of fish, coral, and other invertebrates.
The Great Barrier Reef is facing a number of threats, including climate change, pollution, and overfishing. Rising sea temperatures and increasing ocean acidification, both caused by climate change, are affecting the health of the coral and the marine life that depend on it. Pollution from land-based sources, such as agricultural runoff and sewage, is also a major threat to the reef. Overfishing can also have negative impacts on the balance of the marine ecosystem.
Efforts are being made to protect and conserve the Great Barrier Reef, including reducing carbon emissions to combat climate change, implementing water quality regulations to reduce pollution, and implementing sustainable fishing practices.

Get a bunch of those small crazy bouncing balls from the toy store. Buy two of each color. Try to have an even number of students participating in this dynamic. If you have an odd number of students, keep one of the balls for yourself. Then have all the students stand in an open area, (if you need to, move the chairs and the desks aside). Bounce the balls forcefully on the floor and have the each of the students catch one. Once everyone has a ball, have them go around and look for the other ball with same color. Once everyone is paired up, have them ask eachother the questions below. Repeat the dynamic for each question.
P.S. Kids love this game!
Questions:
- Have you ever swum in the ocean?
- Do you like to go to the beach?
- How do you think pollution affects the ocean?
